Perfect Color for Contouring
The contouring and highlighting mania is becoming more serious with every passing day and isn’t planning to fade away soon. In fact, it has become an imperative part of our makeup routine. Professional make-up artists look like goddesses after perfectly sculpturing their faces with contouring and highlighting products but to choose the perfect colors and tones for a specific skin tone remains a daunting task for non-professionals. With the right tools, techniques and contouring shades, this can become a vital part of your makeup routine. Here are some of the tricks to choose the right colors and tones for contouring.
Choose Either Cream Or Powder
There are options available in both, cream or liquid makeup, and powder products; but for the beginners, we recommend using the latter one as it allows more control. Once you have mastered the techniques, you can proceed to the harder cream-textured stuff. Contouring powder can help you achieve a more defined and controlled look, application wise. If you are new in the world of contour, you might want to start small and steady then reach for the star that is the liquid or cream base contours. There are many brands out there that offer highlighting and contouring shades which would make your selection simpler.
Test Before You Take
You should put multiple numbers of colors on before you choose the one that goes best with your skin tone. In case of highlighting, choose something which 1 or 2 shades lighter than your actual skin tone and for contouring, select something that is 1 or 2 shades darker than it. For fair skin tone, it is best advised to stay away from the tones of orange, for medium skin tone use more bronze shades, and if you have dark skin tones you can experiment with deeper shades of red undertone powders.
Blush Is A Must
In order to balance the sharpness added to your face through contouring, you need to put a pop of blush on your cheeks to soften your look. Smile and see where you cheek becomes round and add blush to that portion. This would help to enhance your features and define a proportionate relationship between the sharpness and the softness added to your face. This is also important to do because it finds equilibrium between the strong and bold contour shades and light and shimmery blush.
Buy Good Brushes
Though this has nothing to do with the color selection but it is still an important aspect in reaching the contour perfection we all are aiming for. Using high-quality brushes are vital to contouring, as the blending is the essential part of the whole process. If you are working with powder, natural brushes with hair are the best option as they have a cuticle that absorbs and release powder with accuracy. Till you see definition, not streaks, keep blending powder onto the hollow of your cheeks. A highlighter put under eyes and along the bridge of your nose, above lips and on the forehead to add shine.
