Emmys 2017 took place on Sunday night. The show, Big Little lies, stole away the award for Outstanding Limited Series. Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon came to receive the award for it. They gave a very liberating accepting speech talking about their women-centered show which left us all beaming with pride. They thanked the network and other resources behind the success of the show.
Then they went ahead and thanked Liane Moriarty, the writer of the show. Witherspoon applauded the writer as the one “who wrote the bestselling book and created this memorable character”. “Oh my Gosh, Nicole, HELP! “ she cried out loud.
Their speech was full of emotions of joy and excitement. They thanked their audiences for accepting the show and embracing it. “This is the power of Television’ Kidman said. They applauded the people for liking the show as it contained many issues other than the entertainment values. “ We are so grateful that you told your friends to watch the show” she added. She also said that this has been a great year for the women working in this industry. ” Can I just bring women to the front of their own stories and make them the hero of their own stories.” she went ahead and said.
Nicole Kidman beat Witherspoon just a few minutes ago and won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie. She gave a strong message at the end of her speech referring to her close friendship with Witherspoon. She said that this friendship has been the reason behind this show. “It created opportunities out of frustration because we weren’t getting offered great roles”, she also said, ” So now, more great roles for women, please.”
We Loved Every Bit of It
Reese Witherspoon has come forward and talked about the need to give more complex roles to women in both Television and movies before. She also wrote a story for Glamour, talking about her personal effort and encouraging women to embrace their ambitions. She talked about the evolving mindset regarding female roles in the industry. Witherspoon said that right now she has around 23 projects in the works fueled by great female characters of different ages and races.
“There is a film about an astronaut, a film about the entrepreneur who invented Barbie, and a film about the young, brave American girls who were the first women to serve alongside Special Ops in 2010 in Afghanistan” she further added.
She also added we would need to work really hard to drive further changes in the situation. Reese encouraged everyone to do what they do best. She gave a very meaningful message at the end that one should listen to that little voice in their head which drives them. She said if you have that listen to it, give it room and the best environment to grow in.
We wish them all the best for the years ahead. May Emmys 2017 be a turning point for these amazing women of the industry.
